Only Females Oviposit: Chemical Discrimination of Adult Stink Bug Sex by the Egg Parasitoid Trissolcus japonicus

چکیده
Egg parasitoids foraging for suitable hosts scattered in the environment rely mainly on chemical cues. Elucidating ecology of natural enemies is important development effective and successful strategies conservation biological control. In this context, host cuticular hydrocarbons, which are exploited by several species egg as contact kairomones, could be used to retain them providing information about presence sex adults target species: because only females lay eggs that can subsequently utilized parasitoid reproduction. However, basis discrimination not well understood. We carried out behavioral bioassays investigate role played cues left brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys Stål, searching behavior adult Trissolcus japonicus (Ashmead). A first set showed spent more time exploring patches contaminated with chemicals associated H. compared males. Similar responses were displayed T. when hexane extracts tested suggesting non-polar compounds involved discrimination. GC-MS analysis revealed quantitative differences two sexes, 1-hexadecene (more abundant males) being most component determining these differences. Hexane blended synthetic significantly reduced wasps’ arrestment crude extracts.

Attack and Success of Native and Exotic Parasitoids on Eggs of Halyomorpha halys in Three Maryland Habitats
Egg parasitoids of the exotic invasive brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys (Stål), were investigated using lab-reared fresh (live) and frozen (killed) lab-reared sentinel egg masses deployed for 72h on foliage in three habitats-woods, orchard, and soybean field-in Maryland, USA, in summer 2014. Four native hymenopteran species, Telenomus podisi Ashmead (Scelionidae), Trissolcus euschi...

متن کاملThe first mitochondrial genome for the wasp superfamily Platygastroidea: the egg parasitoid Trissolcus basalis.
The nearly complete mitochondrial (mt) genome of an egg parasitoid, Trissolcus basalis (Wollaston), was sequenced using both 454 and Illumina next-generation sequencing technologies. A portion of the noncoding region remained unsequenced, possibly owing to the presence of repeats. The sequenced portion of the genome is 15,768 bp and has a high A+T content (84.2%), as is typical for hymenopteran...

Nezara viridula L. and Euschistus servus (Say) are the predominant species of phytophagous stink bugs on corn, Zea mays L., in Georgia. Oebalus pugnax pugnax (F.) occurs in relatively low numbers, and the predatory stink bug Podisus maculiventris (Say) is commonly found. Limited information is available on natural biological control of these four stink bug species in Georgia corn fields; there...
متن کاملAn exotic parasitoid provides an invasional lifeline for native parasitoids
The introduction of an exotic species may alter food webs within the ecosystem and significantly affect the biodiversity of indigenous species at different trophic levels. It has been postulated that recent introduction of the brown marmorated stinkbug (Halyomorpha halys (Stål)) represents an evolutionary trap for native parasitoids, as they accept H. halys egg masses as a host but produce no v...
